Smiles Foundation
The Miles for Smiles Foundation and Survivors helping Survivors are not-for-profit organizations dedicated to preventing child abuse. Through our charity events, our goal is to raise funds for existing local agencies which provide services for victims of child abuse and/or sexual violence.
Andy Bhatti, a survivor of childhood sexual abuse will be riding a bicycle from Port aux Basques – St. John’s, Newfoundland from July 25, 2015 to August 8, 2015. His goal is to raise the much needed awareness for survivors of child abuse. Prominent Newfoundlander: Shannon Tweed-Simmons and her sister Sara will be our special guests.
Proceeds from the bike ride will be donated to two different organizations. Donations to the Miles for Smile Foundation, Newfoundland and Labrador, will go directly to Thrive. Thrive is an organization that focuses on marginalized youths. It is an umbrella organization that works with the community to address gaps in services, build community partnerships, increase awareness of existing programs and services and conduct outreach to our most challenged youths.
All donations to Survivors helping Survivors, British Columbia, will go to Sophie’s Place, a child advocacy centre in British Columbia. Sophie’s Place is an important agency that provides support for children that have experienced sexual abuse or assaults. 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 5 boys are sexually abused in Canada before the age of sixteen and Sophie’s Place is one of the few agencies in Canada that provides support to thousands of these victims.
